First of all, a huge shoutout to all the guests, friends, families, well-wishers, and everyone who kept on encouraging and supporting us not to give up but to keep moving forward during the last 2 years!
Your words and actions were our strength and we hope that we made you proud again today.
With the Covid-19 world pandemic, Camp Leopard took a huge toll during the last 2 years. Nevertheless, we prioritized protecting the livelihood of our team more than taking care of the property renovations and operations during these tough times.
By the end of 2021 after being dormant for quite a while with the frequent lockdowns and travel restrictions, we decided to temporarily close our camp in Katagamuwa for a way-past-due, major renovation, or rather a makeover to ensure that we are fully equipped to deliver above and beyond the expectations with the modern luxuries & comforts for our guests with a new state-of-the-art set up as the new Camp Leopard – Yala, in Katagamuwa.
We will definitely keep you posted with all exciting renovation updates from time to time on this space.
The renovations are estimated to be completed by the end of Summer 2022
So what’s happening now?
While the base in Katagamuwa is undergoing renovations, we decided to launch our dream product which had been in the planning for years since the Camp’s inception;
An Authentic Leopard Tracking Sri Lankan Mobile Tented Safari tour to the undisturbed Northeast sector of the Greater Yala Complex, Yala East – Kumana National Park.
In this exclusive tour, we set up South African Safari Tents by the Kumbukkan Oya River inside the national park, deep in the wilderness and abundance of wildlife, nature, history, and adventure.
In an analogy, I would say..,
‘If Yala is South Africa, Kumana is the Botswana of Sri Lanka’.
Kumana, by far, is the most beautiful, remote, and undisturbed national park on the island with regular sightings of the terrestrial big 5 of Sri Lanka.
The map in the header refers to all national parks, sectors, and gates that we carry out our safaris in the Greater Yala Complex and current camps that we operate from or rather set up on a tour basis inside Kumana and decamped at the end of each tour. It’s not easy, but the experience is totally worth it for the traveler as well as for us.
While our brand new exclusive experience is being served to travelers who really want a ‘Real Tented Safari Experience’ completely off the beaten path away from the crowds, We still carry out our Original Explore Yala – Safari Glamping Tour with tailor-made and pre-made itineraries to enhance the best of the Yala experience, which Camp Leopard is known to deliver, while partnering with a state of the art modern Luxury Glamping Resort in the neighborhood.
So Come join us on our new adventures and expeditions into the Greater Yala Complex.
We have some special introductory packages on the new website and also we will be taking several groups of local resident travelers on Kumana Expedition in the coming months to introduce this magical land beyond the common misconception of Kumana being just a bird sanctuary!
Stay tuned for more about that later…
For now, come check out our new website with all new exciting information and tell your friends who wants a real Professional Ethical and Sustainable Safari, that the Camp Leopard is Back, only stronger and wiser!
Please pardon any broken links and typos in the website as we are still in the process of quality assuring the website (since yesterday), yet we could not wait any longer to keep this all-new exciting ‘stuff’ from you!
Happy 2022 Travellers, Enough isolation now. Once again the borders are opening and the world is traveling. Safe Travels!
